There are too many foods labeled as “constipating” by different conflicting theories. This article discusses eight categories of examples, briefly:

1. Foods stripped of their dietary fiber. Examples: wheat and rice polished to sparkling whiteness. Fruits that are processed into meltingly sweet drinks. This theory is favoured by the mainstream medical community.

2. Foods containing dietary fiber eaten excessively. This is propounded by people who do not believe in the lack of dietary fiber as a cause of constipation. Human carnivores would love this theory.

3. Foods containing opioid peptides. Examples are wheat – again, and milk therefore dairy products. Cancer patients who need to rely on opioid pain killers experience constipation as a prominent side effect which is very difficult to relieve even by prescriptive laxatives and stool softeners.

4. Foods containing beta-carbolines. Cooking and processing food produces beta-carbolines. People who believe in this theory would think that cooked meat and vegetables can make them constipated. What is left for them to eat is raw fruits, meat and eggs.

5. Foods taken excessively at the wrong time. For example: taken in moderation, banana promotes bowel movements; taken excessively, banana is constipating. Some mothers who give more bananas than their babies could handle would know this. It is even said that women can become temporarily constipated when they eat bananas during late nights. Too much snacks and later super can confuse the biological clock to the extend it doesn’t know when to “let go”.

6. Beef. People who think opiod peptides and beta carbolines are constipating believe fresh raw beef relieves constipation. To be pragmatic though, only hunters and butchers can obtain such freshness. That’s why there are people who believe raw or rare beef may contain parasites that can cause constipation. On the other extreme, well-done beef is hard on the digestion. Beef is better served medium or medium rare.

7. Wine. In the West, wine helps to digest the notoriously constipating cheese. In the East, wine is frowned upon by traditional Chinese medicine when a constipation sufferer has the following symptoms: dry stools, little amount of urination which is dark, abdominal distention with tenderness, flushed cheeks, preference for cold drinks to quench thirst, bad breath, vexation, feverish, red tongue with yellow and dry fur plus rapid pulse. To a Chinese physician, this is accumulation of heat in the stomach and intestines, a possible consequence of boozing and greasy food. This heat impairs circulation of body fluid, drying up the intestines and resulting in constipation. Wine is said to aggravate the symptoms.

8. Unusual Chinese theories : eel, dog and snake meat can worsen the constipation of a patient with too much accumulated heat as stated above. Other offensive foods are: garlic, onion, mustard, pomegranate, apricot, cherry and coconut.

There are many caveats to the above list of foods that are said to cause constipation. What is constipating to one person may not affect another person. Individual health condition must be taken into consideration; while majority would agree on most of the foods mentioned here, a patient of celiac disease would them to be a cause of the opposite effect, diarrhea. By the way , these are definitely not suggestions for a person who is having diarrhea. Overall, a discussion of constipating foods helps to highlight the fact that eating right to suit personal needs is a science by itself.

causes

There are different causes for baby constipation, and i will like to discuss some of them.

First of all, when we change the type of food we give the baby, this may cause constipation for the baby. When i say change in food it may be changing the type of food formula or changing from milk to solid or semi solid food. The constipation may be as a result of the baby body not yet adopted to the new food formula.

Sturdy have also shown that lack of breast feeding could lead to constipation in babies. Results show that babies that were given soley formular with no breast milk poop once in 3 days unlike those baby that have breast milk along side formula feeding poop at least once a day.

It has been advice that when measuring the baby powdered milk, they should not be compresed or packed together. Also the atmostpheric temperature when very hot might affect the bowel movemnt, precisely slower.

                   treatments

Due to the chemical nature of enemas as well as laxative, it is strongly advisable not to give them to babies. These could creat a great problem in the near future. This is because their body system is not yet well develop to break down the chemical make up of these product.

As it has been medically advice, breast feeding is the act that should be encourage by all. At this stage this the food their body system can easily break down.

As per what amount of water to be given to babies, they should be given very small quanty as little as eye-dropper full of water. As the baby grows on, a full bottle of water should be enough for the whole day.

It has been adviced medically that magnesiun should be given to babies. They normally comes as magnesium citrate and should be administered to them using tablespoon in the ratio of 1 to 16 to water. This should continues untill the bowel activities is return to normal. This magnesium citrate assist in contraction of peristaltic muscle, thereby aiding bowel cleaning. In addition, it help the intestinal musle to fuction properly.

Use baby enema. To do this, apply olive oil to the tip of a bulb syringe containing about one to three (1-3) tablespoons of lukewarm water, and insert gently in the baby’s colon. Be careful that there is no air in the bulb. After a few minutes, your baby should naturally have a bowel movement. Do this until satisfied.

Baby massage can also be carried out as this help to reduce stress in baby, skyrocket digestion, help the baby to grow well as well as helping natural defence of the babies body.

A glycerin suppository can be used to control baby constipation. To do this, some k-y jelly is rubb on the suppository and this is placed in the baby’s rectum. Now there is need for the buttocks to be held together to prevent the suppository from falling off. Advisible to give bath to the baby using warm water as this will help to relax the baby and stimulate quik bowel movement.

Another way to treat baby constipation is the use of poop inducer, this is group as a natural way to stop baby constipation. The advantage of using this is that is save as well as been cheap.

Constipation is often the result of a poor diet. It is important that you eat a healthy diet that consists of foods that help your digestive system to work properly. It is just as important that you avoid foods that cause constipation. Since constipation is something that can affect anyone, it is important for you to know what foods are beneficial to the prevention and treatment of constipation and what are the foods that cause constipation so that you can limit or avoid the intake of these foods. A Healthy Diet in Constipation It is essential, not only to your overall health, but also in the prevention of constipation that you eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. A healthy diet consists of fresh fruits and vegetable, foods high in fiber, and foods that provide Omega-3 fatty acids. Your healthy lifestyle should also include planning your meals and maintaining a daily schedule for eating. Eating on a schedule will help your digestive system to stay on a regular schedule, which will aid in the prevention of constipation. Foods to Avoid in Constipation There are many types of foods that cause constipation. You should limit or eliminate your intake of these foods in order to prevent the onset of constipation symptoms. While constipation can occur in anyone and is not a serious illness, repeated bouts of constipation can lead to more serious illnesses. Sometimes constipation is a side effect of a medication or illness. If you are taking the medication or suffer from an illness that may involve constipation as a symptom of the illness, you should try to avoid foods that make the risk of constipation higher. Here are some common foods that cause constipation:

MilkCheeseIce CreamChipsPizzaInstant mashed potatoesPastries CakesCookiesFried FoodsProcessed FoodsWheat-based FoodsRed MeatDried Beans In order to help prevent constipation you should avoid or limit your intake of dairy products, foods that are high in fat content, foods that are high in cholesterol content, and processed foods. Prepared meals that come in boxes is one type of food that causes constipation. Overall Health It is important for your overall health to eat a healthy diet and exercise regularly. Avoiding constipation should be a part of your healthy lifestyle. You should learn what foods cause constipation and try to avoid them altogether – or limit your intake of these foods. Maintaining a regular exercise regimen will help build the muscles in your intestines and will allow these muscles to work properly in the digestion of food. Chewing your food slowly and sufficiently will also help in the digestive process. Leading a healthy lifestyle and aiding your digestive system in the natural process of eliminating waste from your body not only helps you to feel better, but can also aid in preventing more serious illnesses that can be caused by repeated bouts of constipation. You should be very careful when it comes to laxatives. Before you begin taking laxatives, you should know the difference between constipation and your body’s natural digestive schedule. Constipation occurs when you have less than 3 bowel movements per week. Remember that not everyone has a bowel movement each day, and in many cases, this is normal. Each person’s body has it’s own individual schedule. If you start taking laxatives in order to make your digestive system perform according to what is normal for other people, you are increasing the chance that your digestive system will become dependent on laxatives in order to process waste from your body. Upsetting the natural process of your digestive system can cause more frequent bouts of constipation, which could lead to more serious illnesses. Being aware of your own body’s natural schedule and learning what foods cause constipation so that you can limit your intake can help in allowing your body to naturally process waste and improve your overall health.

Cymbalta (Duloxetene) is an antidepressant of the SNRI class. SNRI stands for seronontin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor, and it is sometimes referred to as SSNRI. It is prescribed for major clinical depression as well as neuropathy arising from diabetes-related conditions. As an SNRI, it inhibits the reuptake of both serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain, instead of just serotonin as in the more popular SSRI class of antidepressants. This allows Cymbalta to positively affect clinical depression as well as chronic pain. However, Cymbalta is only FDA approved to treat major depression and the pain related to diabetic peripheral neuropathy, or DPN. Cymbalta is also being used to treat less severe adult ADHD as well as stress-related urinary incontinence, although it is not FDA approved for either treatment.

Cymbalta has side effects on par with most antidepressants of the SSRI class. The additional effect on the brain’s norepinephrine levels appears to have added few side effects. Common side effects include high blood pressure, drowsiness, nausea, dry mouth, constipation, fatigue, changes in appetite, and increased sweating. These side effects may occur when you first begin to take Cymbalta and may persist for up to a month. If they persist longer than a month, then you may wish to contact your doctor to consider taking another antidepressant. More serious risks include mania, high blood pressure, seizures, liver damage, and an increased risk of suicide. If you are suffering from these symptoms, alert a health professional. It is important to be monitored by a health professional or loved one to prevent suicide attempts during the first month of taking Cymbalta, as it has been shown that antidepressants can increase the risk of suicide in the first month, especially among adolescents. In a clinical trial testing the efficacy of Cymbalta for treating women with stress-related urinary incontinence, some of the participants attempted suicide or reported suicidal thought despite showing no prior signs of willingness to commit suicide. Therefore, it is necessary to monitor all persons taking antidepressants even if they are using them for purposes other than treating depression.

Cymbalta shares the severe withdrawal symptoms that plague many other SSRI class antidepressants, even though it is an SNRI. If you suddenly stop taking Cymbalta after having been taking it for a while, you may experience a feeling of electric shocks running through your body, mania, wild mood swings, difficulty concentrating, and feelings of incredible sadness. These symptoms may persist for a few weeks to a few months after you suddenly stop taking Cymbalta. If you wish to stop taking Cymbalta, you must contact your doctor and get your dosage gradually lowered in order to prevent these withdrawal symptoms, as they are not pleasant.

Cymbalta is a useful drug for treating depression and neuropathy that may accompany it. All drugs carry a risk of side effects, and Cymbalta is no different, so you must keep in mind that side effects may occur when you start taking Cymbalta.

Constipation is one of the most embarrassing and irritable situation that we face in our daily life. It occurs when we have fewer than three bowel movements a week. Constipation can occur to anyone. There are several causes of constipation, many having to do with diet. Some common constipation causes are -

• Lack of exercise that is a common cause of constipation in the elderly

• Lack of fiber food in the diet

• Certain diseases and illnesses may also cause constipation, especially those illnesses, such as stroke, that causes improper functioning of your body parts

• Constipation is also caused by repeatedly ignoring the body’s urge to defecate

Constipation is a common problem that affects almost everyone in the life one time or another. Due to the poor eating habits, uneven lifestyle and late nights, constipation has occupied almost everyone in its grip. According to Ayurveda, when a person does not pass stool at least once in 24 hours, he is considered to be constipated.

Major Causes of Constipation

Unhealthy colon with lots of wastes (toxins) accumulated inside it, is the main reason behind many colon diseases. The cause of constipation on a pyhsical level is dietary – eating food which is difficult to digest. Lifestyle is another important factor – sleeping late, rushing off to work in the morning without giving proper time for evacuation, excessive stimulation like watching lot of television etc. all lead to constipation.

Mental factors like, nervousness, stress, insomnia also lead to constipation as do medical causes like, fever, infections and being bedridden for long. Acute constipation usually indicates accumulation of wastes in the colon (ama), as in cases of fevers, severe bloating or gas fasting and a light diet should be followed.

Natural Treatments for Constipation

Dietary habits should be looked at in the first place. The aim should be to have whole grains, bran, raw fruits and vegetables. Fruit juices like prune and grape can be taken. Olive and sesame oil is also used in order to treat constipation.

Triphala is a very popular Ayurvedic composition consisting of three tropical fruits, haritaki, amalaki, and bibhitaki. It is an excellent herbal colon cleanser and tonic as well as a Rasayan (rejuvenator). The normal dose is 5–15 gm. taken at bedtime with lukewarm water.

Another natural treatment for constipation is aloe gel 1-2 teaspoons three times a day. It is good to keep colon healthy. You can also take psyllium husk powder 1-2 teaspoons in warm water before sleeping for better bowel movement.

Natural laxatives like senna and rhubarb are useed for acute constipation but should be used with caution. In the long run they can precipitate constipation.

Enema is one of the best natural methods for treating acute and chronic constipation which are not benefited by the above medications. Enema should only be undertaken under the guidance of an Ayurvedic expert only.

Natural Remedies for Constipation Relief

Natural herbs and spices like cumin seeds, coriander, turmeric powder, fennel and asafetida helps in improving digestive system.

Another simple remedy for constipation is to drink a glass of warm milk at the time of going to bed. This helps in evacuation, the next morning.

In the morning after waking up, drinking a glass preferably warm water, and then waiting for a few minutes before going for evacuation helps in cleaning the bowels.

One of the very first functions a baby does, at the moment of leaving the womb, is to cry. This function is repeated over and again, as this newborn learns that crying will get the attention needed at the right moment to make him or her comfortable.

With the first cry, your baby will bring in his or her first breath of air. This is normal and expected for healthy babies to cry and should not upset the mother, father and family members; though it sometimes does. If, by chance, your baby doestn’t cry upon arrival into the world, the doctor will then initiate a reaction from your your baby. The normal practice is to clean air passages and pinch or gently strike his or her feet, thus surprising the baby into crying.

It is understood and accepted, babies can not express themselves with words early in life. First and for most, your baby will cry to communicate with you and others he or she will come into contact with. There may be other physical ways he or she will communicate, such as kicking feet, waving harms, moving his or her head. As you and your baby learn this wordless form of communicating, crying will be most effective.

Since the crying habit varies from baby to baby, how do you explain ‘excessive’ crying? As some babies are easily soothed, while others are more difficult to calm. You and your baby will learn the different types of cries for the different needs that arises. Excessive crying of distress will be very distictive.

A sudden burst of excessive crying will indicate the urgency of your baby’s needs. The cause can be as simple as parental seperation or as extensive as life threatening situations; in which case needs immediate attention. Quite often it is difficult to determine the cause of his or her crying, here are some common reasons…

1) hunger – your baby will cry on a regular schedule of maybe three to four hour segments, at first, to feed. Here the adage ‘crying baby gets the milk’ rings true.

2) wetting – when your babies diaper becomes wet and soiled, it causes discomfort and he or she will respond by crying until the diaper is dry again.

3) company – the higher percentage of babies and children alike strive on the stimulation of compnay. Feelings of being alone or dropping a favorite toy will be cause to cry.

4) tired – anytime of tiredness will bring on a wimper, whine or cry. From being tired after traveling, being sick or just growing spirts, babies need sleep and they also fight sleep to see what is happening around them.

5) heat and cold – if your baby becomes too hot or becomes very cool he or she will become restless, then cry for relief. Having good ventilation is important for your chld’s comfort.

6) tight clothing – Tight fitting clothes, particularly in warm climates or during warm seasons, is hard on children. Too tight of elastic in dresses and waist bands; or around wrists and ankles, can cause soreness and discomfort. Crying will express these feelings.

7) dark room – When a baby awakes in the night, in a dark room, he or she will cry and disturb mother and father. then becomes further distressed when the strong light comes on and cries louder. A good practice is to have a dim light on in your baby’s room.

mosquito – The surprise of the sting from these insects will result in a crying baby.

9) nasal blockage – Stuffed or blocked nasal passages will result in your baby crying until these passages are cleared for proper breathing.

10) phlegm in throat – This too will cause crying to occur, phlegm makes for difficult breathing. This condition can often be heard as your child breaths.

11) General aching – During the stages of flu or other infectious diseases, the body aches and becomes restless resulting in possible continual crying.

12) hibitual crying – Occasionally, much to the parents agony, babies cry without a cause. Often a call to the doctor is pursued for help.

13) nappy rash – This can result if, for long periods of time, the nappy is wet. Allergic reaction can also be the cause of a rash. With the appearance of a nappy rash, your baby becomes restless and cries from lack of sleep and discomfort. Other conditions that also causes this problem would be eczema, ecthyma, candidiasis, ect.

14) earache – This is most common in wet climates. Often times this infection will start in the throat. Ear infection can become risky and cause the ear drum to rupture and discharge pus, if not taken care of properly. An earache will eueally become worse at night when lying down. Some children will frequently rub the infected ear, trying to communicate the discomfort. Crying is most assured to occur and when vary painful, won’t allow you to touch the ear.

15) colic – This is connected to rumbling and cramping of the abdomen while in a parallel position and is relieved slightly is an upright or vertical postion. Some children will find relief while lying on their abdomen. This condition is hard to diagnose and the exact cause is uncertain. If your child continuously cries consult your doctor.

16) Infections – All infections result in pain or irritation one way or another causing your child to cry. This can occur anywhere on the body or inside the bady. Most often joined with fever, redness and swelling.

17) reactions to certain foods – One adage to keep in mind ‘one man’s food is another man’s poison’. Some foods are connected directly to allergic reactions. Reactions such as redness, breathlessness, gastric symptom and continual crying should alert parents to a posible health problem with the child and consult your doctor.

18) hard stools – Constipation in babies can cause him or her to cry when the urge for stool arises. Occassionally a child may try to hold back their stool due to pain.

19) gastro exophagial reflex – When your baby cries after burping up right after eating; if this is a regular occurrence it could be gastroesophageal reflex. When the lower part of the esophagus fails to close after food resulting in regurgitation from the stomach. However; it is hard to diagnose this condition. Doctors will start by prescribing antireflex medicine.

20) dentition – When a child experiences dentition or teething he or she will become restless and cry often. This condition is also connected to gastric troubles and diarrhoea.

Rare causes maybe…

1) bowel obstruction – Bowel obstructions will cause severe pain and vomiting. Your child’s abdomen can be swellen and rumbling with discomfort. Baby will be constipated and the absences of stomach acid.

2) septicemia – Organisms, such as pathogenic micros, invading the blood with accompanied fever.

3) torsion of testes in male children – When male babies cry continuously, check his scrotum. This condition produces severe pain and worsens at the touch. If the testes are pressed upward toward the body will relieve the pain. Proper treatment is required, if steps are not taken the affected testes can become damaged by lack of circulation and blood supply.

4) meningitis – Fever may not be present with this condition. If your baby cries with alternation vacant stare and irritability consult your doctor promptly. Other sympoms will follow, such as, rigid neck and may be seizures.

5) retention of urine – If your child retains urine, the blatter becomes overly full causing intense pain, resulting in restlessness and crying.

6) major injuries – Major injury, anywhere on his or her body results in pain. On occasion a child may fall resulting in a head injury. This can be connected with reflex vomiting and convulsions.

Protein has been garnering extra attention as the health conscious realize the benefits of including protein in their diets. Protein is needed to help rebuild the body’s tissue, which is particularly important to athletes and bodybuilders. In fact, the body is in need of a continual supply of protein in order to repair and to build its tissue. Protein is also essential for producing antibodies, hormones, new muscle tissue, and blood hemoglobin. All protein that is lost within the body must be replaced and protein must be present in order for new tissue to be constructed.

While athletes swear by the ability of animal protein to build muscles, researchers are concerned about the potential effects of animal protein on the liver and the kidneys, as well as the link between animal protein and osteoporosis. As a result, many are turning toward soy protein and whey protein instead. But, what are the benefits, drawbacks, and differences between these different forms of protein? And, how much should you include in your diet in order to garner the benefits you are looking for?

Soy Protein

Soybeans contain high quantities of protein (considered to be of equal quality as animal protein) and also contain substantial amounts of amino acids. In addition, soy has been observed to lower cholesterol. Even the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has stated 25 grams of soy protein per day can reduce the chances of developing heart disease.

Soy protein has also been found to reduce the symptoms of menopause, to reduce the risk of developing osteoporosis, and to help prevent a number of diseases related to hormonal issues. These include endometrial cancer, breast cancer, and prostate cancer. Soy protein has also been shown to speed up the metabolism of the thyroid, which can help with obtaining a leaner body. If you are intolerant to soy, however, its specific protein can actually have the opposite effect.

A number of soy protein products can be found at health food stores, including food bars, soy burgers, and even soy-based beverages. Those products containing soy protein isolate generally have the highest saturation. Other products containing soy protein include soy flour, whole soybeans, and tofu. Be sure to check the product label in order to determine the amount of soy protein the product contains.

Remember, however, soy isoflavones, which are sold as supplements in health food stores, are not the same substance as pure soy protein. Nonetheless, soy isoflavones possess a number of beneficial effects, such as improving kidney function and preventing bone loss.

If you are not allergic to soy, there are very few side effects to including soy in your diet. In some people, however, consuming soy on a routine basis can lead to an upset stomach and may even cause diarrhea or constipation.

Whey Protein

Like soy protein, whey protein has been shown to provide a number of benefits. For example, clinical studies have shown whey protein can:

Act as a natural antibacterial or anti-viralAssist in maintaining the proper weightReduce the symptoms of Chronic Fatigue SyndromeReduce liver damageImprove the function of the immune systemImprove blood pressureImprove athletic performanceImprove the function of the digestive systemReduce gastric mucosal injury

Whey protein is very high in biological value (BV), which is highly sought by athletes. In short, BV is the amount of protein your body can replace with 100 grams of consumed diet. The only other foods containing high levels of BV are whole eggs and egg whites. Unlike eggs, however, whey protein does not contain high levels of fat.

While soy protein is derived from soybeans, whey protein is derived from milk as a diluted byproduct of the cheese-making process. Fresh liquid whey protein contains only about 1% protein because it is mostly comprised of lactose and water. For this reason, it takes about 229 liters of milk to produce just one kilogram of high quality whey protein isolate.

While in its original form, whey protein affects the digestive tract in much the same way as yogurt. Therefore, it is considered to be a natural remedy for many intestinal issues. In fact, it is often used in Sweden to help prevent bowel problems, gas, and constipation. Nonetheless, it can have the opposite effect and actually lead to constipation for some individuals.

The amount of whey protein recommended in a person’s diet depends on his or her weight, gender, age, level of activity, and overall health. Including both soy and whey protein in your diet can be very beneficial to your health; but, since both can lead to constipation, be sure to follow a high fiber diet to help keep your bowel movements regular. Try one or both of these all-natural health supplements and discover the results for yourself!
