Iron is possibly one of the most forgotten and underappreciated minerals that the human body needs to function well. Without iron, you can be left feeling tired, disoriented, or even depressed. To ensure this doesn’t happen, many people take iron supplements; but you have to be careful. Too much iron can leave you on the toilet waiting for something to happen, to no avail. Too much iron can constipate!

Let’s take a look at how iron benefits the body and understand just how important this mineral is to your everyday diet.

Iron is one of the minerals found in hemoglobin—the carrier of oxygen in the blood coursing through the body’s internal “highway” system. Hemoglobin gets the oxygen everywhere it needs to be, so when you don’t have enough hemoglobin in your blood you can become anemic. Anemia causes people to feel tired, experience constant headaches, and increases their vulnerability to infection.

Iron is also extremely important for normal brain function and can help ward off depression in many cases. Iron boosts the immune system and can help alleviate weakness, irritability, and dizziness. It’s not uncommon for doctors to prescribe Iron supplements for people suffering from deficiencies of this substance. Unfortunately, too much of a good thing can be bad. Too much Iron can cause a wide range of side effects including:

ConstipationAbdominal painSevere nauseaVomiting or diarrhea with blood

You need to contact you doctor if you experience any of these symptoms. Overdoses of Iron can also increase the risk of various cancers and even Parkinson’s disease.

Everyone should understand how to obtain the necessary amount of natural Iron from the foods they eat; many times an alteration in diet can remedy the deficiency. The recommended daily allowance of Iron differs among men, women, and children. Here’s a brief list of the United States Recommended Daily Allowances for Iron to help you understand how much you should be consuming:

RDA of Iron for Men
11 to 14 years old—12mg/day19 years old and over—10mg/day
RDA of Iron for Women
11 to 50 years old—15mg/dayOver 50 years old—10mg/dayPregnant—30mg/dayLactating women—15mg/day
RDA for Children
0 to 6 months—6mg/day6 to 12 months—10mg/day1 to 10 years—10mg/day

Foods that are high in Iron include organic leafy green vegetables, whole grain products, lean meats, free-range poultry, and non-farmed fish. Maintaining a smart and healthy diet is your best method of receiving all of the necessary vitamins and minerals your body needs. It’s interesting to note that Vitamin C can actually boost the positive health effects of Iron in your body. On the other side of the coin, caffeine can prohibit Iron absorption. It’s easy to observe how diet plays a critical role in achieving or restoring overall good health.

So far, we’ve discussed how and where to obtain the natural Iron your body needs, why it needs it, and what can happen if you take too many Iron supplements. But what are you to do about your current state of constipation? Luckily, quality products are readily available to assist you in relieving constipation symptoms and thoroughly cleansing your digestive system at the same time.

Oxy-Powder® is one such product. Through a unique combination of oxygenated Magnesium, organic Germanium-132 and citric acid, Oxy-Powder® liquefies deep down biological sludge and fecal waste that has built up in your colon over the years. Oxy-Powder®’s powerful formula gently cleanses the colon and leaves you feeling lighter, cleaner, and refreshed inside!

Within your colon, accumulated waste can severely hinder your body’s ability to absorb necessary nutrients. In fact, in most cases of constipation, toxins that should be expelled from the body wind up getting re-absorbed back into the blood stream, in effect poisoning your body. That’s part of the reason why you feel so sick and unhealthy whenever you’re constipated. Oxy-Powder® removes the sludge that’s clogging up your digestive system and promotes a harmonious environment for good bacteria to grow within your colon. The good bacteria are absolutely necessary to help break down food and support efficient digestion.

Adding a proper exercise routine, drinking plenty of purified water, and increasing your natural fiber intake is a great way to maintain your body’s new and improved digestive system. You may no longer have a need for Iron supplements because adopting a healthy diet means you’re getting all the minerals and nutrients your body needs; and with a cleaner colon, those nutrients can benefit your health moreso than in the past. You can feel better overall by reducing your risk of numerous health conditions and you may experience less stress as well. Overall, you can feel rejuvenated in mind, body, and spirit.

Cats suffer from constipation quite regularly. Most of the time this eventually passes, but the home treatment of cat constipation is really important. This article looks at why it is so important.

Constipation simply means that it takes too long for the food that kitty has eaten to travel through his digestive system. This ends up producing very hard and dry feces that are painful and difficult to pass.

Risk factors for constipation tend to be a poor diet and too little exercise. If your cat has a poor diet, is very sedentary and/or is overweight, then he’s going to be at higher risk of constipation.

Cats are also prone to a condition called megacolon. The exact cause behind most cases of megacolon is unknown. But what this condition means is that the cat’s large intestine has become enlarged and filled with hard fecal matter. Middle aged and male cats are at higher risk. This is serious stuff so you don’t want to let it get this far.

If left untreated, constipation and megacolon can ultimately be fatal. But don’t panic because there’s a lot that we can do to help improve our cats digestive health. The following steps are sufficient to sort out most cases of cat constipation. In the rare cases when kitty is showing no signs of improvement, you should visit the vet to check to see whether there is potentially something else blocking the intestines.

* Make sure that kitty is drinking enough water and is eating good quality food.

* Groom your cat regularly. Ingested hair is a common cause of constipation in cats.

* Monitor your cat’s weight and control the food they eat accordingly.

* Make sure that your cat is getting some exercise. Play with him and make him move if he is reluctant to do it himself.

* Try a regular digestive health supplement that will increase the fiber in his diet. When such supplements are used, it’s doubly important to ensure that he’s drinking water.

* If your cat has regular bouts of constipation and diarrhea, try a probiotic supplement to support the friendly bacteria in his gut.

If kitty is constipated, please don’t ignore it.

Constipation refers to any irregularity in, or absence of, bowel movements. The slow movement of food through the large intestine and the amount of time the waste remains in the colon are factors that contribute to constipation. More and more water is absorbed while the waste is in our body and the stool becomes drier and bulky thus more difficult to pass. Home remedies can help in relieving constipation.

Constipation is no fun. Sometimes it can be painful. But the cause of your sluggish bowels is often easy to find. It may include a lack of fiber in the diet, insufficient liquid intake, stress, medications, lack of exercise, and bad bowel habits, says Paul Rousseau, M.D., chief of the Department of Geriatrics at the Carl T. Hayden Veterans Administration Medical Center in Phoenix, Arizona.

Home Remedies for Constipation

Grapes have proved very beneficial in overcoming constipation. The combination of the properties of the cellulose, sugar, and organic acid in grapes make them a laxative food. Their field of action is not limited to clearing the bowels only. They also tone up the stomach and intestines and relieve the most chronic constipation. One should take at least 350 gm of this fruit daily to achieve the desired results.

Drink a glass of prune juice 1st thing on an empty stomach to ease or rid any constipation. Prune juice containing fiber is highly recommended.

Very young children and babies should not be given over the counter laxatives, they can contain harsh chemicals that may cause even more embarrassment once they begin to work! These chemicals can also increase cramping and have other side effects.

Food should be properly chewed. Hurried meals and meals at odd times should be avoided. Sugar and sugary foods should be strictly avoided. Foods which constipate are all products made of white flour, rice, bread, pulses, cakes, pastries, biscuits, cheese, fleshy foods, preserves, white sugar, and hard-boiled eggs.

Beware of certain foods, some things may constipate one person but not another. Milk, for instance, can be extremely constipating to some, while it gives others diarrhea. Foods that tend to produce gas, such as beans, cauliflower, and cabbage, should be avoided by those whose constipation is the result of a spastic colon, says Dr. Schuster. You should suspect a spastic colon if your constipation is sharply painful.

A common Ayurvedic medicine for constipation is Triphala Churna. It is a powder made by grinding three kinds of herbs. A teaspoon of this powder taken with warm water or milk at the time going to bed is beneficial.

Conventional thinking on laxatives is that if you must take one, find one that’s psyllium- or fiber-based. Psyllium is a natural fiber that’s much gentler on the system than ingredients in many of the other products available today.

Guava when eaten with seeds provides roughage to diet can give relief from constipation.

Much constipation is caused by lack of physical exercise and poor diet. Every one should have 6-8 8 ounce glasses of liquid every day. The best liquid for preventing constipation and overall good health is water. 20-35 grams of dietary fiber each day is the American Dietetic Association’s adult recommendation. Good sources of fiber are fruits, vegetables and whole grains.

Increasing the amount of exercise you get daily can also help to improve bowel movements. Mix dried figs with plum’s concentration; add half a teaspoon of paraffin oil, 1 cup of borsch, honey and lemon and drink.

Constipation means different things to different people. You may have constipation if you have three or fewer bowel movements in a week or if stool is hard, dry, painful, or difficult to pass. Some people with constipation lack energy and feel full or bloated.

Some people think they have constipation if they don’t have a bowel movement every day. However, bowel habits are different for everyone. The foods you eat, how much you exercise, and other factors can affect your bowel habits.
At one time or another, almost everyone gets constipated. In most cases, it lasts for only a short time and is not serious. When you understand what causes constipation, you can take steps to prevent it.

What can I do about constipation?
You can take several steps to prevent and relieve constipation.

1. Eat more fiber.
Fiber helps form soft, bulky stools and is found in many vegetables, fruits, and grains. Be sure to add fiber to your diet a little at a time so your body gets used to it. Limit foods that have little or no fiber such as pizza, ice cream, cheese, meat, snacks like chips, and processed foods such as instant mashed potatoes or frozen dinners.

Your doctor may suggest you take fiber pills or powder to help soften and bulk up the stool. You can buy fiber products in a pharmacy or grocery store without a prescription. Some fiber products are flavored while others are not. Be sure and take the fiber with plenty of water as directed.
Some people have gas and bloating at first when taking extra fiber. Let your doctor know if you are having problems that do not go away after a few days.

2. Drink plenty of water and other liquids such as fruit and vegetable juices and clear soups.
Liquids have little effect on stool form; however, drinking enough fluids is important because dehydration can cause constipation. Try not to drink liquids that contain caffeine or alcohol if you feel thirsty or dehydrated.

3. Get enough exercise.
Regular exercise helps your digestive system stay active and healthy. Exercising 20 to 30 minutes every day may help.

4. Visit the restroom when you feel the urge to have a bowel movement. Allow yourself enough time to relax.
Sometimes people feel so hurried that they don’t pay attention to their body’s needs. Make sure you visit the restroom when you feel the urge to have a bowel movement. If you usually have a bowel movement at a certain time of day, visit the restroom around that time. Reading a book or magazine in the restroom can help you relax. If you cannot have a bowel movement within 10 minutes, get up and return the next time you get the urge.

5. Use laxatives only if a doctor says you should.
Laxatives are medicines that help you pass stool. Most people who are mildly constipated do not need laxatives. However, if you are doing all the right things and you are still constipated, your doctor may recommend a laxative for a limited time. Your doctor will tell you what type is best for you. Laxatives come in many forms including liquid, chewing gum, and pills.

6. Check with your doctor about any medicines you take.
Some medicines can cause constipation. Be sure to ask your doctor if any medicines you are taking could cause constipation.

7. Follow any special treatments your doctor recommends.
If you have problems with the muscles and nerves that control bowel movements, your doctor may suggest biofeedback. Biofeedback is a painless process that uses sensors in the rectal area to help you feel the stool and move it out of the rectum. Doing biofeedback with a trained therapist has been shown to help some people with constipation.

Points to Remember:

• Constipation may be present if you have three or fewer bowel movements in a week or if the stool is hard, dry, painful, or difficult to pass.
• Constipation affects almost everyone at one time or another.
• In most cases, following these simple steps will help prevent constipation:

Eat a variety of foods, especially vegetables, fruits, and grains.
Drink plenty of liquids.
Exercise regularly.
Visit the restroom when you feel the urge to have a bowel movement.

• Fiber pills and powders may help relieve constipation.
• Most people with mild constipation do not need laxatives. However, your doctor may recommend a laxative for a limited time if you have constipation that does not improve.
• Some medicines can cause constipation.

Cures for constipation range from a variety of products some being home remedies and some being store bought. Either way being constipated is not healthy nor comfortable. So below we give a breakdown of constipation.

<b>What is Constipation?</b>
Constipation is a very common condition affecting many people.  It tends to affect more women than men. It appears to be especially common in women just before their period or during pregnancy.  It is normally not very serious although occasionally, complications can occur if the condition is not treated.

<b>What Causes Constipation?</b>
Constipation can be caused by a number of different factors.  A number of which are described below.

The main cause is believed to be a lack of fluids in the diet.  The stools then become hard and small which the body struggles to expel.  A lack of fibre also has the same effect.  What then happens, is that the stools which the body can’t expel are retained where they dry out even further and then work their way back up into the colon where they can cause a blockage.

Some drugs e.g. painkillers and some types of cough medicines may cause constipation.  By taking medical laxatives which my relieve the symptoms in the short term may actually increase the problem as the body becomes resistant to them over time.

Say Goodbye to Constipation, Get Regular Today!

There are a number of other causes which include
Not being active
Too much calcium or too much iron in your diet
Drinking too much strong tea or coffee which has a diuretic effect by making you urinate more often thus dehydrating your body
Bowel muscles not being strong enough – this is more common in elderly people as their muscles in their whole body become weaker
Recent abdominal surgery – this may have the effect of weakening your bowel muscles
Anxiety
IBS can be a cause of constipation.

<b>What are the Symptoms of Constipation?</b>
The symptoms of constipation are as follows.
Stomach ache and cramps
Feeling bloated
Feeling sick
Change in your normal bowel pattern
Headaches
Furred tongue
Loss of appetite
Fatigue and depression
Should you experience any of these conditions and they are with you for more than a couple of days, it is important that you see a doctor.  It is always better to be safe than sorry.  Sometimes these symptoms could mean something much more serious.

<b>What is the Treatment for Constipation?</b>
Quite often, the best cure for constipation, is simply to increase the amount of fibre in your diet.  That includes lots of vegetables and cereal products.  Most of us don’t eat enough of these things.

Also, increasing the amount of water that we drink can help to relief the symptoms of constipation.  The vast majority of people don’t drink enough.  By drinking more, you can not only relieve the symptoms of constipation, but it will improve your general health as well, making you feel better.

By taking more exercise, you can help to eradicate constipation.  This can be something as simple as a 30 minute brisk walk 3 – 4 times a week.

If you are going to take laxatives, then they should only be as a temporary measure.  If you find that you are having to take them for a long period of time, you should probably go and visit a doctor.

Constipation is defined as difficulties in bowel movements characterized by hard or firm stools and irregular or infrequent bowel movement. It is labeled chronic if the symptoms are present for more than two weeks.
Causes
The causes of constipation in infants and toddlers include:

Change from breast milk to formulas Insufficient intake of fluid Low fiber diet Metabolic disorders Cow’s milk or any other ingredient in the child’s food Certain medications

Symptoms
Here are some symptoms of constipation seen in young children:

No bowel movement in three days Stool is hard and looks like small pebbles or is large in diameter Gas formation in the stomach Pain and discomfort with passage of stool Leakage of liquid stool into the child’s underwear or diaper

You should call the doctor immediately if the following are noted:

Blood in the baby’s stool Stomach ache Fever Vomiting Constipation despite 3 days of home care

Treatment
The following methods may be used to reduce constipation:

For infants older than six months, a high-fiber diet can be introduced. Increase the child’s intake of barley, oatmeal, vegetables especially peas, fruit, and other foods that are rich in fiber. For infants between four to six months, drinking 2-4 ounces of water or diluted fresh fruit juices day may work. Avoid honey, infant mineral oil, cow’s milk, and syrup. Remember also that a BRAT diet (Banana, Rice, Applesauce, and Toast), which is good for diarrhea, has a worsening effect for constipation.

If nothing works, it is important to consult your doctor immediately.

causes

There are different causes for baby constipation, and i will like to discuss some of them.

First of all, when we change the type of food we give the baby, this may cause constipation for the baby. When i say change in food it may be changing the type of food formula or changing from milk to solid or semi solid food. The constipation may be as a result of the baby body not yet adopted to the new food formula.

Sturdy have also shown that lack of breast feeding could lead to constipation in babies. Results show that babies that were given soley formular with no breast milk poop once in 3 days unlike those baby that have breast milk along side formula feeding poop at least once a day.

It has been advice that when measuring the baby powdered milk, they should not be compresed or packed together. Also the atmostpheric temperature when very hot might affect the bowel movemnt, precisely slower.

                   treatments

Due to the chemical nature of enemas as well as laxative, it is strongly advisable not to give them to babies. These could creat a great problem in the near future. This is because their body system is not yet well develop to break down the chemical make up of these product.

As it has been medically advice, breast feeding is the act that should be encourage by all. At this stage this the food their body system can easily break down.

As per what amount of water to be given to babies, they should be given very small quanty as little as eye-dropper full of water. As the baby grows on, a full bottle of water should be enough for the whole day.

It has been adviced medically that magnesiun should be given to babies. They normally comes as magnesium citrate and should be administered to them using tablespoon in the ratio of 1 to 16 to water. This should continues untill the bowel activities is return to normal. This magnesium citrate assist in contraction of peristaltic muscle, thereby aiding bowel cleaning. In addition, it help the intestinal musle to fuction properly.

Use baby enema. To do this, apply olive oil to the tip of a bulb syringe containing about one to three (1-3) tablespoons of lukewarm water, and insert gently in the baby’s colon. Be careful that there is no air in the bulb. After a few minutes, your baby should naturally have a bowel movement. Do this until satisfied.

Baby massage can also be carried out as this help to reduce stress in baby, skyrocket digestion, help the baby to grow well as well as helping natural defence of the babies body.

A glycerin suppository can be used to control baby constipation. To do this, some k-y jelly is rubb on the suppository and this is placed in the baby’s rectum. Now there is need for the buttocks to be held together to prevent the suppository from falling off. Advisible to give bath to the baby using warm water as this will help to relax the baby and stimulate quik bowel movement.

Another way to treat baby constipation is the use of poop inducer, this is group as a natural way to stop baby constipation. The advantage of using this is that is save as well as been cheap.
